Special Needs Housing - Chapter 689

The housing program instituted under Chapter 689 is state-aided housing for the handicapped.  The program assists the Commonwealth’s efforts at the deinstitutionalization of physically and/or mentally handicapped individuals of low income by providing community-based housing units.  The projects are owned by the Housing Authority and are managed by non-profit service providers in co-operation with the Department of Mental Health.


74 Litchfield Avenue, Southbridge, MA

The second project is a DMH project located at 74 Litchfield Ave. and is a two story with 8 units.  It is operated by the Open Sky Community Services.

45 & 57 Cross Street, Southbridge, MA

The DDS Units, located at 45 & 51 Cross Street consists of a 1 story building with 8 units.  It is operated by South Central Rehabilitation Resources, Inc.
